August Report
The new Committee is settling in well with all sections nice and busy despite the winter weather. We bid a fond farewell to Kerry Payton who intends heading overseas after many years service to the Club and especially the CAS Section. On behalf of everyone we thank you for all your efforts and wish you the best on your new adventures.
Ranges 8 & 9 are very close to certification – I know I’ve written this before but thanks to a huge weekend-long slog, Gavin and this band of merry helpers have completed the under floor earthworks on the edges of the range. We owe a huge thanks to Gavin, Tom Bachop, Neil Cave, and Matt Chalmers who were on the diggers and trucks until they’d run out of daylight, plus the many other helpers on the Saturday on the end of shovels. The barrels have been taken out of the corner where the plate rack will go as the contractor had incorrectly filled them with stones & left over’s. These will be refilled with pea gravel, repositioned and the ground releveled then we’re all done.
The IPSC team have been organising events and activities from behind the scenes to increase the fun and time all members are getting on the ranges. The calendar has plenty on it for keen IPSC shooters. Revolver day was full of laughs for those of us more accustomed to semi-autos. Get out there and have a go.
Congratulations to Steven Boyles for winning the first “IPSC most improved shooter” competition, by actually winning the Production class at our last mini-match and also the hard work he puts in helping out. He now has the use of a beautiful CZ 75 IPSC Standard gun & gear kindly donated by Tommy for the next six months. We’ll run this competition again in the New Year.
I’d like to welcome JD Kid aka Peter Hobbs on board as CAS Section director. Great to see the enthusiasm and energy he brings to the section. Let’s get in behind him. Expect to see more CAS competition and more good ‘ol Cowboy fun on the ranges.
It’s great to see good turn out of shooters every Sunday on the ISSF ranges. Time to get practicing with the matches approaching in October and November. Also good to see new young shooters giving it a go. Cheryl, Ruth and Michael have been putting in lots of effort training High School students in 10m air pistol, they’ll be our future medal winners.
