New Stage Ideas for Mini - Matches
« on: 26 March, 2010, 02:27:44 pm »
Hi all,

I am looking for new ideas for the monthly mini-matches.  :shooting:

If you have any suggestions post them here and we can all discuss them.

It dosen't have to be a full stage design it can be simply anything you would like to see from new target designs, moving targets, ports to shoot through, whatever you want to discuss.

Let's see if we can come up with some new and exciting stages / ideas that we can have a go at.

Cheers

Aaron

How about Sitting on a chair in a corner of a room/barrier/wall ,  loaded, engage targets standing?.................................. :sherlock:
If you can't say it with flowers................... say it with a Glock!

Hi Matt,

We kind of had something like that on Range 7 for the last mini-match where we started sitting at a table and it was your choice to either engage the targets sitting or standing.

I know alot of of the forum members surf the net and watch IPSC related clips.

I was just wondering if anyone had seen anything that looked interesting and worth us giving a go.

How about making some more pop up target activators, and chaining them,so that each one trips the next.  Perhaps 4 in a row.  Pop, pop, pop, pop, gone.  I can make some a bit cheaper without pipe endcaps :-)

Small swinging platform (like the big one at Rotorua) -- my old one is still around by Range 1, although I think the weather has rooted it, but it would be easy to rebuild.  I did build a spring based rocky platform, but for some reason it never worked as well for me...

Some of our newer members haven't seen air operated windows, but perhaps tripped by a light beam this time.

Completely hidden stage, nothing visible, no target count known...
This IS my warm and sensitive side.

would non steel targets   work ok  for  those kinda targets gavin ??    seen a few set up that way (chained in a  line ) also knock down poppers  that  tip over a card target    1 on popper  4+ on  the card as it   tip's ..

ya could  loan some of the cowboy   stages   and just change  the  gun order     make it just  a pistol and  shotgun stage   yea i know  there is no multy gun in NZ yet   but  it is  part of IPSC   and realy  CAS/SASS is  single action multy gun  ..

http://www.pineywoodsplace.com/stagemenu.html

big  prob with  a lot  of the USA SASS stages  and same with some ranges in Oz    they move across  the fireing line  instead  of  forward  ( range layout    safety   etc etc  )

what about like a bus  start seated in the back of the bus   and  shoot ya way to the front   haveing shoot / don't shoot targets all the way to the front    only thing could be the fireing angles    as  targets   semi hidden  by seats  ..

can ya shoot  comeing backwards ??  Ie  gun down range all the time   just  comeing back from front wall .... rescue a dummy from the front  and drag  him backwards    shooting duellest    as ya draging him   only alowed  2 hands on gun during mag  change

gun and mag's in a  vilon case    all  mag changes out of  case      shot from behind  a  table    1 mag  from top   1 right hand side   another from top  then last from  left hand side    use table as cover   if  over x %  of body showing  .....game over  ...

catch ya

I have a hidden stage ready to put into action.

Yes ya definitely can shoot while coming backwards.

I missed the shoot with the air operated windows. They sounded like fun.

Today's lesson: Don't ride the bus with JD, especially if he is carrying a violin case.
What would Clint Eastwood do.

Hi Richard,

Another blind stage, I can't wait. The last one you designed was fantastic, it sure is a challenge to get all the targets when you don't know where they are.

I have been putting some thought into poppers on the ranges and I am in the process of working out a new method of incorporating these into a stage.

I like Gavin’s ideas, the swinging platform it was a challenge at nationals and I would like to give it another go.

Thanks guys for your ideas, keep them coming  :bravo:

The more ideas we get, the more new things we can try.

Cheers

How about this? You are in a Spa pool with a friend, on the sound of the buzzer (the husband/wife of the friend returning home) you must leap out of the spa pool, put on your clothes and retrieve you pistol from under the bush where you hid it. Shoot the stage as if the targets are neighbours jeering at you. Inflatable friends are available at low cost, the spa will take a bit of heating though.:therapist:

The spa pool idea  i don't think it will be a runner for the cowboys    all about keeping yer powder dry   :-\

mind you  how about   in ya dressing gown and slippers   on the beep  jump out of bed    get  gun out of bedside draws  and  go down a hall way   in to diffrent rooms   hidden targets in rooms

I think the spa pool option is a no go at the moment  :sorry:

As we are unable to guarantee that it won't be used as a target stand  :rotflmao:

As it seems that anything we do leave out on the ranges gets shot to hell   :shooting:

You could try to copy scenes from famous movies and video games, I guess this also leaves the possibility of having 'themed' matches. An example could be the assault of Princess Leia's vessel, Tantive IV, in A New Hope:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-W1ONO2Uxo

In terms of IPSC, this could be built as a long corridor with swingers appearing in and out of view, along with a lot of static targets. Shooters could be forced to lean around a wall to engage targets by a penalty line.
Halt, evil-doer!

Gavin's idea of a series of "pop ups" would be great - very challenging. This was done with a single target a few months ago, very effective. I would be happy to help put them together at the range.
My aim is to be as good a man as my dogs think I am.
