IPSC Section Report for April 2010
OverviewThere is not much new to report for April. Shooting has been continuing on both Wednesday nights and Sunday club days. We have been limited to the amount of shooting time available on Wednesday nights with the change from daylight saving.
As you may have noticed we have been leaving up the stages from the previous months mini-matches on Ranges 6 & 7. We have done this so those of you who have missed the mini-match, will have an opportunity to shoot the stages in the following weekends.
Mini-Match SetupWe are still in need of helpers to setup the monthly mini-matches. If you are interested in helping or just would like to see what happens, feel free to pop out after 1pm on the Saturday prior to a mini-match, or talk to me.
This Month’s Range Safety TopicA quick note to remind everyone that range safety must be paramount. It's important to remember that the rules and procedures that the club has in place are there for our protection.
Target Placement and
Target Engagement on our ranges is very important, as we have very clear guidelines that we must follow to keep our certification.
The only areas that targets can be placed are:
1. Within 1 meter of the Berm, on either sticks (preferred) or barrels (OK, but wastes the barrel). Targets placed here may only be engaged into the Berm i.e. Rounds must not strike the range floor.
2. Anywhere on the range floor on a bullet catcher (barrel), with an unused bullet catcher both sides. Targets may never be on a single barrel.

The only areas that targets can be engaged are:
1. Into the Berm for targets placed on a target stands at an angle of 30 degrees or more to the Berm. This is to prevent shots down the length of the berm.
This also applies to the downrange Berm.
2. Into a bullet catcher, being careful that rounds cannot pass through gaps and hit the range floor.
April 2010 Mini-MatchOn Sunday 18th April the IPSC Section staged another 2 Gun mini-match. The match made up of four challenging pistol stages in the morning finishing with a BBQ lunch. This was then followed by two shotgun stages in the afternoon.
It was great to see a large turnout for this month’s match. The final count for the pistol match was 32 competitors split over three grades. We had 6 in Open, 8 in Standard and 18 in Production Grade.
It was also pleasing to see a good number of the morning’s competitors taking part in the afternoons shotgun match. We had 18 competitors split over three grades, 5 in Open, 8 in Standard (Semi) and 5 in Standard (Manual).
Special thanks to Richard S and Dave H for their fun stage designs for this month’s match. The blind stage that Richard setup was again a hit with everyone. It was a difficult challenge to shoot targets when you don’t know where they are, and as a result there where several targets that where missing scoring shots.
One note for the future is that the blind stage does tend to take some time to get through, so we my need to rethink the number or stages that we incorporate into the match.
Thanks to the members of the IPSC Team for their behind the scenes work on the setup of these mini-match’s. Thank-you also to some of the newer members to the IPSC section who helped out with this month’s setup.
