1911 the good the bad and the ugly
« on: 22 May, 2010, 07:09:03 pm »
Howdy
well as the  topic says   whats  a good make/model of 1911   just the basic mil-spec /GI kinda one    ...
the kind that works out of the box and dose what it says on the tin  kinda  1911
hopefully there is a bit of a bigger  following of the wild bunch    (inbetween  CAS  and IPSC  )

any how  any views welcome

thanks

Since the single stack matches have gained in popularity, the prices for single stack "relics" has risen considerably. You could do a lot worse than buying a new Norinco - at least you know what round count the gun starts with  :juggle:

yea  had a look at a Tanfoglio 1911 today  that bob's just brought  ,  there is quite a bit of talk on the SASS wire   most leaning more to the colt  or springfield  arms ..
also talk of remington 1911R1   coming out   and many others  that make a 1911    but  as we know a lot of these cost the earth in NZ or are not imported    ..

STI (stiguns.com) do some nice single stack 1911 pistols, and Darren at Taieri Arms imports them...
This IS my warm and sensitive side.

I'll have a look on the web site at them   thanks for that

the Wild Bunch side matchs  have not realy taken off  as much in NZ  as  they have in the USA  my guess   more guys  haveing 1911's and pump shotguns in the USA   so eazy for them to  shoot   CAS matchs   with a six shooter   and then just change  to a 1911  to shoot wild bunch  ,also useing there 1911 in say steel   and other action matchs  ..

the full run down of what is needed  for wild bunch  gun etc etc is here

http://www.sassnet.com/Downloads/RO/SASSWBHandbook_Jan2010_final.pdf

so it's a kinda standard  out of the box   1911   with out  heading to the gunsmiths for a heap of doctoring  ..

for a start  there will be a bit of  leyway    on the shotgun  and lever action rifle    as some will not have a  97  pump  but may have a stock standard  pump action   same with the lever action   they may have a .38 or .357     or say a 44mag  rossi  they use  hunting   could be  down loaded   to  take part  (open sights  etc etc )..

it may just be some middle  ground  that  some of the CAS and the IPSC  fellas   can  both shoot  in  as a fun side match ,bit of intrest   bit of planing   bit of food and we have a  days shooting  ..

catch ya

well  just about used up  all this months   internet time  surfing around    looking at diffrent sites   sti ,colt ,kimber ,rock island arms ,IDS,springfield arms ,Para,Norinco...
reading on the SASS web site , CAS city , M1911 and  the other 568 other sites  related to the 1911
there is a lot of views out there   some that say JMB  was in fact the lord and on the 8th day  he made the 1911  .. right out to the  plastic fan club that say after close to 100 years  you would think they would get it right
some models   it may just be the hammer  , trigger   or markings on the slide that will  take them out of   the Traditional Category and put  people in to modern
http://www.curtrich.com/01wildbunchfordummies.html
good run down there with  photos of whats allowed  on each class  any how just waiting to hear back on some emails     strange to say there are some  dealers in NZ that are  ment to be the agents for  the brands  but  will not import there   product     and in most cases  the  agent's have signed  contract's  that they can't export in to countrys  with  an agent  in that country
