hi phill, i have the ADI loading table right here, they list 1 load for slug and ap70, for the lee 7/8oz slug 29.7grns,your slug is a bit heavier,it should still be ok but you would be wise to drop it a cple grns,it should fit[the slug that is] inside a plastic wad, i load the lee slugs and have no problems, cheers, peter

adding to that above, see also data here for lee 1oz, 28.1grns ap70, , 1oz is 437 grns so still just a bit lighter than your slug, would start at say 27grns, will be safe as,

Hi Phil. There is a significant weight difference here, and the data is not interchangeable. Lyman slugs generally run 1 1/8 oz. Suggest you don't exceed 25 grains AP70, and use a white wad. This should cycle your shotgun fine, and give good accuracy.

Looking at the reloading data it seems to depend on the case type as well as slug weight.  ADI reloading handbook gives no loads for slugs heavier than 1oz.  Your 525 grain slug is 1.2 oz.  ADI comparison chart says Hodgdon Universal is equivalent to AP70N.  From the Hodgdon Reloading centre for 1 1/8 oz buckbuster slugs:

24.5 grains with 2 3/4" FEDERAL GOLD MEDAL PLASTIC SHELLS, Win209 primer and a Federal 12S4 wad

25 grains with 2 3/4" FIOCCHI, VICTORY, PMC AND NOBEL SPORT PLASTIC SHELLS (LOW BASEWAD), Win209 primer and a WAA12R wad

23 grains with 2 3/4" REMINGTON STS, NITRO 27, OR GUN CLUB PLASTIC SHELLS, Win209 primer and a Federal 12S4 wad

22.5 grains with 2 3/4" WINCHESTER COMPRESSION - FORMED AA & HS TYPE PLASTIC SHELLS, Win209 primer and a Federal 12S4 wad

Powders are probably not exact equivalents and this is for 1.125 not 1.2oz slugs so best to work up.  Also I am not a reloading guru so don't take my word for it.

This data does suggest starting much lower than the 25 or 27 grains suggested though.

The first post on this http://shootersforum.com/showthread.htm?t=24294 forum is for the slug in question but no AP70N powder.  Comparisons to the powdrs used from the ADI handbook below.

Univ. Clays = Not too sure about this one.  Hogden Universal is an AP70N equivalent.  Hogden clays is an AS30N equivalent.
WSF = A winchester powder betwen AP70N and AP100
Herco = An alliant powder between AP70N and AP100
SR 4756 = A IMR powder equivalent to AP100
700X = A IMR powder equivalent to AS50N
800X = A IMR powder between AP70 and AP100
Blue Dot = An alliant powder between AP100 and AR2205
571 = A  winchester powder betwen AP100 and AR2205
N3SH = Never heard of it.
HS-6 and HS-7 = Hogden powders between AP100 and AR2205
Unique = An alliant powder equivalent to AP70N

So data for Unique is probably the closest but once again take care and work up.

I have read on the net information that is supposed to have come from the lyman shot shell reloading hand book 5th edition using the slugs I have and using Hodgdon powder,but I would like to get hold a copy of or have someone that I can trust confirm this.

I've tried out my first slug loads,using 23grains of ap70n,they cycle well,seem accurate and don't have too much recoil,so thats the load I'm going to use.
Thanks to all for your input :)
