Presidents AGM Report June 2010
Welcome everyone to the 2010 Christchurch Pistol Club AGM.
I am proud to report we have had a busy and successful year with continuing strong membership. We are still the largest Pistol Club in New Zealand with over 210 members and a steady stream of interested visitors every weekend that threatens to overload our resources.
I am very pleased to report Ranges 8 and 9 have been certified for use. We only need a working bee or two to get bullet catchers and props on there, post the range standing orders and they can be in use. We will trial the use of .22 rimfire pistols & rifles on these ranges but as they have given trouble when used carelessly in the past, the use thereof maybe removed in order to keep the ranges open.
We are still with-holding partial payment from the first contractor Taggarts for worse than shoddy work. Whenever they came back for remedial work they would cause more problems than when they had started. 12 months later and they aren’t chasing us for the money but we will have to reach an agreement so we can understand how much money remains for upgrading Ranges 5, 6 and 7.
Our competition spirit is alive and well, with all sections, ISSF, CAS and IPSC holding Island level events throughout the year. Well done and a big thanks to those tireless souls for organizing them. You’ll hear a little more detail of what they’ve been up to in the section reports shortly.
Special thanks goes to Ruth, Cheryl and Michael for their tireless work developing the High School Air Pistol shooting programme. I am amazed at the numbers of teenage boys and girls having a go at air pistol shooting, and just how good some of them are. It’s a great opportunity to influence the future generations to the positives of shooting sports. Ruth has also been lobbying various funding organizations and won $5,000 in grants this year to purchase more club air pistols to match the large numbers of shooters they have been attracting. Thanks to Christchurch City Council and Canterbury Community Trust for their grants.
We’ve had our web based Club Forum running for over a year now. This allows club members to easily be kept up to date in a very timely basis of club news, results, coming events, goods for sale and most importantly, have their say. This has been a great success and is being enjoyed by the majority of our members.
Stealing a little of Rhonda’s thunder, I’m pleased to report the club’s bank accounts are in good health and well under control. Our coffers have been boosted by the hire of ranges to the Police for training although that is coming to an end with their own ranges being completed & certified shortly.
Our biggest challenge for 2010 and needing all the funding we have, is the re-certification of all the existing ranges. Significant work is required on ranges 5, 6 & 7 to meet current range construction regulations. We plan to start with Range 5 (CAS) first.
I would finally like to thank the outgoing Committee members Tania Just and Dave Hayward for their efforts over many years helping the club move forward.
