No. It is closed at the moment, the offices in the police building are used by the earthquake recovery organisation and the firearms officers are helping with the recovery effort.

They are not in a position to do any firearms related business for the time being.

If you need to advise Jason Bruce of a change of address use the online form on the Police website or email jason (jason.bruce@police.govt.nz) but don't expect a reply.   There will be no permit to procure's, licenses etc until further notice, and as the central Police Station is leaning and mostly unusable that might be some time.  I can hold guns in the Armory if anybody doesn't have security.

He said no permits of any kind, etc, and was a bit stressed, and asked that I communicate this to all members.

In all seriousness I think you need to examine your priorities - your needing a permit to carry isn't very important at the moment.

If you need a carry permit, suggest just email the details of of when/ where etc to the arms office as usual. If they don't send you the paperwork, you will have no problem as you've notified them. No need to miss a shoot!

It's actually the piece of paper you need if you're picked up, but right now I suspect they wouldn't prosecute.

Thanks  for the reply   i know it will be hard times for  the police  and all there staff

not realy for me at this time  as  next away shoot not for at least  5 weeks  hope fully   some things  are up and going by then   BUT  there could be others that  for whatever  reson may need some paper work done   with being away from home short term ,   selling  firearms to  rase  short term funds  or transfering  firearms for save  keeping    due to  damages  to homes

Lets make this clear as requested by Jason;

Buying and Selling restricted category firearms is just not possible right now.

Needing a permit to carry -- not possible.   You can advise Jason by mail, but there will be no "permit", so that presents some risks.

Home damaged or any other reason -- I've established a procedure with Jason so I can accept transfers into the armory, but not out of it.

There will be no security checks on homes.

In short -- THE ARMS OFFICE IS CLOSED -- Jason is not just working out of Hornby -- he has another job at Hornby, no computer, no access to records etc.

He seems stressed working in Logistics -- I wouldn't push him right now.

If anybody thinks we're going to back to normal in 5 weeks you're dreaming -- I would expect 3-6 months at a minimum.

This IS my warm and sensitive side.

Hi Everyone,If any body needs a secure place to store firearms
I have enough room for another 100 guns in my safe.

I would sugest do your change of address via email. The website never processed two of my address changes.

Also if your lucky enough to live in the north Canterbury region you may have some luck through Rangiora police station by speaking to a Jim 'something-a-rather'.
He called me up on the Thursday two days after the quake wanting to inspect my safe!  :perfect:

Hows this situation looking anyone know?

Not too relevant for me as I'm still 3 or 4 months away from being able to go for my B (and ill probably go for E at the same time).

A few friends have mentioned going for their A cats though, probably should be a prob eh? I assume will have to go elsewhere as Central police station still not processing applicants?
